"Christian teenage girls in Pakistan are at great risk of being kidnapped by older Muslim men and forced to marry and convert to Islam. In its 2019 annual report, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) recognized that approximately 1,000 non-Muslim 'young women are forcibly converted to Islam each year; many are kidnapped, forcibly married.'
Last October, 14-year-old Huma Younus was abducted from her home while her parents were gone, and she was forced to marry her Muslim kidnapper and convert to Islam. On February 3, 2020, a high court in Pakistan ruled that the marriage was valid under sharia law, even though the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act passed in 2014 prohibits the marriage of girls under the age of 18. Another hearing is scheduled for March 4, but Huma’s parents fear that the case will be delayed. (via

Way to Pray: Please pray for special grace for Huma and her parents and for many others who suffer as Christians in Pakistan.
The Lord called Joy into missions in 1996, after working as a family physician for 13 years in Greenville and while a member at Fellowship Greenville. She first served as a missionary on the island of Guam, reaching into Micronesia with medical mission teams, until she was called to serve as the Medical Director at the home office of Baptist Mid-Missions in Cleveland, OH. She has a variety of ministries, including organizing medical mission teams to various countries, assisting missionaries with their health needs, and serving on the crisis management team for the mission family.
Also, if you are a nurse and are looking to serve internationally, Joy needs nurses for an upcoming medical mission trip to Cambodia. For more information, check out her recent newsletter.
Way to Pray: Pray for God’s wisdom in advising missionaries with significant health challenges. Pray for God’s direction in planning future medical mission trips. Pray as I balance work/ministry with caring for my mother’s health needs.
