Miriam Wheeler, MD, joined Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE) in 1990 and is currently serving in the Ukraine as part of a church planting team. She not only cares for the medical needs in the small villages surrounding Odessa and Nikolaev, but also shares her faith in Christ with people whose spiritual needs are great. This is part of a comprehensive strategy to plant churches in this region of the Ukraine where many villages have no witness.
In 2019, Miriam will be transitioning into a new role with ABWE, that of Medical Director of International Missionary Healthcare. After 20 years in the Ukraine, she will be moving back to the states to live in Harrisburg, PA and fulfill this role. This new role will allow her to serve with a more global impact from right here in the states. Miriam will continue to spend about 2-3 months in Ukraine every year and a portion of her support funds the medical ministry in Ukraine each month.
Miriam graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1985 and completed her residency in Greenville, during which time she was a member of Fellowship Greenville. After joining ABWE, she served in a hospital ministry in Togo, West Africa until the Lord moved her to the Ukraine in 1998.
Way to Pray: Miriam recently moved back to the states after serving with ABWE in Ukraine for the past 20 years. She will be transitioning into her new role as ABWE's Medical Director of International Missionary Healthcare. Please pray as she settles into her new home and her new role. While Miriam is excited about this next stage, it is hard to leave behind the relationships she's developed over the years of ministry in Ukraine.
