We continue in our summer series entitled, "Kingdom Parables: Keep Looking Until You See". Jesus told parables to make people think about how life in God’s kingdom under God’s reign was different than how we normally go about life. Parables have the capacity to challenge and change the way we usually think about God, life, and faith, and the only way to understand a parable is to keep looking until you see and to keep listening until you hear. This message is on the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. In this parable, Jesus is saying that people who live in a right relationship with God are people that see who God really is. In seeing God, they see their sin and their need for forgiveness. They cry out to God for mercy and grace. Only people like that can be declared "right" with God, not because of what they do or don't do, but because of what Jesus has done for them on the cross. People that are truly right with God are always more aware of how far they have to go than how far they've come.
