Hebrews: Hold Fast
The New Testament makes a big deal about the grace of God on display in Jesus. But what happens when we abuse that grace? What happens when people profess one thing about Jesus but then live in such a way that blatantly belittles what he has done for us? These are the kinds of questions that lurk behind the book of Hebrews.
There are some in Hebrews that are undergoing persecution and want to go back to their old Jewish ways so that their suffering will lighten. The writer of Hebrews says that Jesus is too glorious for them to drift back into their old religion. Rather than drifting, he wants his friends to cling to Christ. Because of the sufficiency of who Jesus is and what he has done, we must hold fast.
