PRAYER REQUESTS

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble". Psalm 46:1

"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land". 2 Chronicles 7:14

The Prayer Team is actively looking for individuals who would like to minister to our congregation by meeting with those who need prayer following the Sunday services. Volunteers are on duty once a month for one service.  At this time, we particularly have a need for the following weeks/services: 1st Sunday/2nd Service, and 3rd Sunday/2nd Service.  If you are interested in serving with the Prayer Team, please contact Rebecca Cooke at 864-385-3368 or rcooke@fellowshipgreenville.org.

Please pray for these other requests:

  • Sharon Kellar asks for strength for diagnosis of PSP (progressive supernuclear palsy), a rare brain disorder that interferes with balance and vision, progressively gets worse, and has no cure. Please pray for Sharon to be strengthened and draw near to the Lord.
  • Tim Collins asks for prayer for two of his friends. One friend has a mass on her breast and is meeting with doctors to discuss her treatment. The other has a tumor on his back and is being treated with radiation. Please pray for healing for both and for opportunities for Tim to share Jesus with them.
  • Erin Oliver asks for prayer for her friend who is recovering from brain tumor surgery.
  • Melody Bechard asks for prayer for upcoming surgery.
  • Lisa Guarino requests prayer for her father, Russell, who has brain cancer. He is having a second surgery to remove a tumor. Please pray that his surgery goes well and for his recovery.
  • Anna Morris requests prayer for two friends that are having surgery this week. Please pray for the doctor's wisdom and their recovery. The first had cancer surgery on Tuesday, and the other will have heart surgery on Friday.
  • Diana Penn requests prayer for her father-in-law, Ed, who is recovering from major surgery. Please pray for his continued recovery.
  • Curtis Sather asks for prayer for a friend who has been having heart attacks.
  • Jonathan Rodriguez would like prayer for healing, peace, and a stronger relationship with God. He also asks for prayer for protection and strength to overcome the challenges he is currently facing.
  • Kelly Wylie Koutsioukis requests prayer for her mom to get strength and ability back.
  • Andrew Weaver would like prayer for continuing growth in his relationship with God.
GLOBAL NEWS OPPORTUNITY TO PRAY: UZBEKISTAN

"Though Uzbekistan has long been a highly restricted country, its government has made incremental reforms in religious freedom in recent years. This improvement, with unity among believers across several Christian denominations and a focus on training and equipping Christian leaders, is a positive development for the small number of Uzbek churches and Christians. Though restrictions on churches and Christian organizations have eased, evangelism and conversion are opposed, and it is still illegal to distribute evangelistic literature in public." Via: Voice of the Martyrs

Way to pray: Praise God that fines and detentions are now rare and Christians have greater freedom to practice their faith. Pray that unregistered house churches will remain undetected by the government. Pray that Uzbek Christians will forgive family members who reject them because of their faith.

MISSIONARY HIGHLIGHT: ALVAREZ

Jose Alvarez trusted Jesus as a college senior at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. He was baptized by his future father-in-law in 1980, whose daughter, Michelle, he married in 1981.

Married for 41 years, Michelle and Jose have 3 adult children (two are married) and 2 granddaughters Lucy & Coco, and 2 grandsons Shepherd & Arnie. They speak together in marriage conferences around the country for over 25 years and also provide marital and premarital counseling in the Upstate. Since 1988 they’ve lived in Greenville, South Carolina.

Jose has been on several mission trips to Korea and Cuba using his past baseball experience to introduce people to Jesus. He came on staff with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served as a Life Coach and mentor to the PGA’s Korn Ferry Tour Players, wives, and caddies for 15 years. He was asked to pray about coming on staff with Links Players International in May 2022. After several months Jose & Michelle answered the call and began serving with Links on September 1, 2022. Currently, he is reaching those in country clubs in the Upstate of South Carolina.

Way to Pray: Please pray for Jose and Michelle's kids and grandkids with the different paths that they are on. Jose is busy building community at Greenville Country Club, Thornblade, and Legacy Pines. Pray as he builds these relationships that the men Jose interacts with will come to know Jesus personally.

OPPORTUNITY: ADOPTION HELPERS VOLUNTEER TRAINING

Our partner, Adoption Helpers, offers childcare to foster, adoptive, and kinship families, and they do it in a trauma-informed way. They are looking to grow their volunteer base in order to serve more families in the upstate. If you would like to volunteer with them, the first step is to go through their volunteer training! They have a virtual training coming up on July 31 and an in-person training on August 9. Fore more information or to sign up, visit this link. You can also reach out to Dara Lehman (dara@adoptionhelpers.org) for more information!

MISSIONARY AND PARTNER UPDATES

  • Please pray for Kaylyn Brown (Athletes in Action) who has two upcoming trips this summer to Guatemala and Thailand. Pray that these trips are effective in encouraging and sharing the love of God with those they serve.
  • Please pray for our partner Set Free Alliance as they work with vulnerable children coming out of traumatic situations.
  • Please continue to pray for Scott McCracken and his family as they grieve the death of Vicki following complications after a recent heart surgery at the beginning of the year. Please also pray for them as they grieve the loss of Scott's mom last month. You can read his latest update here.
  • Iglesia Alumbra, a partner church in Barranquilla, Colombia, asks us to help them pray for a larger place to worship. Please also pray for partners in Domzale, Slovenia, Médard-en-Jalles, France and Potsdam, Germany as they are also feeling the limitations of space!
