PRAYER REQUESTS

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble". Psalm 46:1

"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land". 2 Chronicles 7:14

  • Emily Sewall could use continued prayers for healing.
  • Sally Gutierrez would like prayers for her marriage and husband.
  • Stephanie Todd is asking for prayers for her family.
  • Ruth Baya needs prayers for her husband and marriage.
  • Joey Starr passed away on May 12th. Please pray for his new bride, Lydia, as well as the Starr and Clark families, as they navigate this difficult time.  A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, May 15th at Fellowship Greenville.
GLOBAL NEWS OPPORTUNITY TO PRAY: Iran

The Islamic Revolution of 1979, led by Ayatollah Khomeini, created the world’s only Shiite Islamic theocracy and profoundly changed every aspect of life in Iran. Today, many of those who committed their lives to Islam and Islamic rule are filled with despair. This disillusionment has opened new doors for the gospel, which is sweeping across the nation via Christian media and bold evangelists in Iran’s growing house church movements. However, the government continues its attempts to thwart this move of God. Christian leaders and pastors are often arrested, tortured and imprisoned, and their families are harassed. Some, left with no other options, choose to flee the country. (via: Voice of the Martyrs)

Way to Pray: Pray that Iranians who have dreams and visions will come to faith in Jesus Christ. Pray for creative new strategies to reach more than 60 unreached people groups. Finally, pray for the safety of our brothers and sisters in Christ who are risking their lives to share the Gospel.

MISSIONARY HIGHLIGHT: Martens

In the summer of 2017, Franz and Kristie moved to Germany to establish a hosted Oasis for Global Workers. Working together with Life Impact Ministries, the Oasis is a private home with room for families to stay for up to 7 days to experience rest and restoration. The Martens offer Pastoral Counseling and Life Coaching with the goal of preventing ministry burnout.

The Martens began their missionary service in 1996, serving with an organization specializing in church planting in the most remote and unreached parts of the world. They have served in Papua New Guinea as a family and have served in a short-term capacity in other countries.

Upon resigning in 2012 with burnout, Franz started a home repair company and Kristie worked for an accounting firm in Panama City Beach, FL. After several years of healing and recovery, they recognized the need to provide care ministries to missionaries and pastors close to their areas of ministry. They joined Life Impact Ministries in 2016 and went back into full-time ministry. Check out their most recent newsletter.

Way to Pray: Franz and Kristie have recently started their church plant in Potsdam. Pray as they continue to consider finances, equipment, and good relationship building. Please also pray for all the people who will be walking through the doors and hearing the gospel for the first time.

OPPORTUNITY: World Relief--Good Neighbor Teams

In April, Fellowship Greenville launched its first Good Neighbor Team (GNT) in partnership with World Relief. This group of nine members from our church is coming alongside a refugee family from Guatemala to help ease their transition from a traumatic situation in their native country to a completely different culture. World Relief works with refugee families to extend a welcome, provide vital services, and build relationships and a sense of belonging. Our GNT helps them with that in a variety of ways through things like apartment setup, learning English, providing transportation, and shopping. World Relief has asked Fellowship Greenville if we could form a second Good Neighbor Team to help a family from the Congo. We currently need a team Lead and two additional members to complete the second team. If you’d be interested in this opportunity to share the love of Jesus in this way please contact Jana Johnson at jjohnson@fellowshipgreenville.org.

MISSIONARY AND PARTNER UPDATES
  • Please pray for Andrew and Holly Haas (TWR) as they lead a team from their church to Mozambique over the next couple of weeks. They will both be using their previous experience as missionaries on the continent of Africa to guide short-term teams and launch a team of summer interns.
  • Pray for Sam Ingrassia (E3) as he plans and recruits a team for a trip to Cali, Colombia this summer.
  • The Emerys (OLX) praise God that they found a home in Greenville! Please pray for them as they continue to settle into the area and Patrick settles into his new role with OLX.
  • Pray for the Fletchers (Southeast Asia) as they minister to and encourage a man in their community who is facing a family member's surgery, potential loss of a job, and more.
OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE: Piedmont Women's Center--Baby Bundle Collection

Want a tangible way to serve one of our local partners? Piedmont Women’s Center (PWC) provides “Bundles of Joy” for the women they serve in the Upstate. Fellowship Greenville has the opportunity to donate these much-needed items as they tend to often run low on inventory.

On Thursdays during May, at lunchtime, you can drop off items (see below) at the PWC Greer location at 100 Collins Dr, Greer, SC 29651. This week, items should be walked around to their covered back entrance and left there. If you’re unable to stop by physically, PWC has an Amazon Wishlist available for items to be delivered directly to their offices. Check out our website for the list of items and other details!
