GLOBAL NEWS OPPORTUNITY TO PRAY: China
"Prominent Chinese pastor Wang Yi was sentenced this week to nine years in prison. This news comes after authorities remained silent for a year regarding his whereabouts or condition following his arrest in December 2018. Before he was arrested, Pastor Wang boldly wrote a public letter which included this statement: 'I hope God uses me, by means of first losing my personal freedom, to tell those who have deprived me of my personal freedom that there is an authority higher than their authority, and that there is a freedom that they cannot restrain, a freedom that fills the church of the crucified and risen Jesus Christ.' Way to Pray: Please intercede for Pastor Wang, including that God will use him to shine as Gospel light while in prison. Pray also for his wife who was originally detained with him but has been released to house arrest.
MISSIONARY HIGHLIGHT: Dean
Victoria is one of three new missionary units we have begun supporting in 2020. She first knew she was called to missions at age 6 after an encounter with the Lord. Since that moment, the Spirit has led her down a winding path to get her ready to serve orphans with Back2Back Ministries. Victoria joined the FG Student Ministry staff in 2017 and focused on loving and building relationships with students and their families. Two of those families fostered her dream for the mission field and introduced her to Back2Back Ministries. After a scouting trip to Cancun, Mexico, Victoria knew Cancun was home.
Back2Back Cancun focuses on Strong Families. There are currently two community centers that Back2Back operates in Cancun, each with unique functions for the specific communities they reside in. The goal of these community centers is to build stronger families that are dependent on Jesus, interdependent on community, and independent through sustainability.
Way to Pray: Please pray for a smooth transition into full-time ministry in Cancun for Victoria, as well as a smooth transition for her dog, Willow. Also, please pray for a strong staff bond between Victoria and her new teammates and new opportunities for ministry in Cancun.
OPPORTUNITY: to Celebrate
Back2Back had an exciting 2019! Here are some of the works God did through B2B globally and domestically!
- 662 children’s holistic needs were directly met.
- They have 106 Strong Families currently enrolled and receiving services.
- Haiti’s phase 1 construction complete, and all powered by solar energy.
- 10 India Hope Education Program Students enrolled in Junior College.
- 1000s of other individuals around the world were trained in partner organizations, working toward better standards of care for the children and families they serve.
We are thankful for our partnership with Back2Back. They are truly making a difference in the lives of so many vulnerable children through their on the ground work and through imparting their wisdom to many different organizations, churches, and individuals.
MISSIONARY AND PARTNER UPDATES
- Pray for new missionaries, Joel & Lauren Fletcher, as they prepare to leave for the mission field in February!
- Please pray for Katie Foth who is traveling to Sydney, Australia and Chiang Mai, Thailand during the month of January to help provide child care for Cru missionaries who will be attending conferences in those places.
- Jasmine Kitchen, the social enterprising arm of Jasmine Road, opens in February. Pray that it will become a light to our city and offer hope to vulnerable women who hear the story of its purpose.
OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE: Jasmine Road
Jasmine Road is a two-year-residential program for adult women survivors of human trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. Fellowship Greenville is proud to partner with them in the transformative work that they are doing in our community and in these women's lives.
Jasmine Road believes community is healing and that volunteers can play a vital role in creating this environment. Volunteers serve alongside their program staff to love and support the residents on their unique journey of healing, and to further the growth, development, and operations of the Jasmine Road social enterprise initiatives.
