Jim and Mary Ann Carpenter, former members of Southside Baptist, are requesting prayer for Jim who recently had a kidney transplant (July 10). Pray for the donor, Cherie, as well as general continued health for both, their recovery, and that his body will accept the kidney.
Dave Stahl passed away on July 4, 2019. He served faithfully on our security team. You may access his obituary HERE.
GLOBAL NEWS OPPORTUNITY TO PRAY: Bangladesh
"Among the more than 600,000 Rohingya people who fled Myanmar in 2017, a relative few have come to faith in Christ while living in refugee camps in Bangladesh. These believers are now facing persecution in the predominantly Muslim camps. On May 10, a group of extremists beat and stabbed a 14-year-old Christian boy, and two days later a mob attacked 10 homes of believers in a part of the camp where the boy’s family lives. Later, the extremists kidnapped the 14-year-old boy, along with a 4-year-old boy. Though the boys were able to escape and return to their families within 24 hours, the teenager said the extremists forced him to recite Islamic creeds and told him he would have to join them on religious trips for several months (via

Way to Pray: Pray for these relatively new believers who are facing persecution inside the refugee camps. Pray that the 14-year-old will remain firm in his faith, and pray for the protection of all Christians in the camps.
MISSIONARY HIGHLIGHT: Haas
Holly Beech (a graduate of Southside Christian School) began working with Trans World Radio (TWR) in 1997 during her studies at the Moody Bible Institute. That same year, Andrew Haas joined Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) and began traveling as part of The JESUS Film Project. They met in 2006 during an Africa partnership project. Andrew soon moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, married Holly in 2008, and left Cru to join TWR. After serving together in Africa for nine years, God called Andrew to a video position at TWR headquarters in North Carolina. He serves unreached oral people groups by helping deliver God's Word electronically through video. More and more Bibleless people groups have access to smartphones allowing TWR to deliver series of short Bible story films designed to facilitate discipleship and church planting through social media.
Way to Pray: Holly and Andrew are licensed as a foster family in North Carolina. Please pray that–if fostering to adopt is God's will–doors continue to open for a sibling set to join their family this year.
OPPORTUNITY: to Pray
This Sunday, a group of 30 middle schoolers, high schoolers, and leaders will head to Lexington to serve alongside Next Step Ministry. While there, they will work with families in Lexington doing home repair and construction as well as developing relationships with organizations in the area. Please pray for this group as they travel and serve those around them.
MISSIONARY AND PARTNER UPDATES
- Pray for Ed and Sylvia Christy who continue to search for a larger meeting space for their church.
- After serving in Ukraine for 20 years, Miriam Wheeler has officially transitioned into her role as ABWE's Medical Director of International Missionary Healthcare. Please pray for Miriam as she continues to learn and grow in this new position.
- Pray for Joy Anglea as she and her team try to discern God's direction for their next medical mission trip.
OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE: Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that helps people in our community to build or improve a place they can call home. Right now, the Greenville Chapter of Habitat for Humanity has a significant shortage of volunteers. If you are interested in giving your time and skill set to help out with a Habitat project, you can check out their volunteer page. These projects are a great opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community!
