The GIFT We Need

Jason Malone - 12/24/2022

SERMON SUMMARY

What we celebrate at Christmas at its very core is humility. The humility of a King to come to earth as a baby and the humility it takes to acknowledge we aren’t the kings of our own lives and that we needed this baby to be born. And through this gift, because of grace and kindness, Jesus brings salvation for all people. But it takes humility to acknowledge we need it. That’s how accepting this gift you need looks different from other gifts you “need.” That’s what I love about Christmas. We celebrate that it’s a reminder of the greatest GIFT we’ve ever NEEDED and to regularly think about our greatest need and the GIFT that meets our greatest need. This is at the heart of what we celebrate—even here on Christmas Eve.

SCRIPTURE: Titus 2:11-14

SERMON SCREENSHOTS & KEY POINTS

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people.” Titus 2:11

“And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.” Titus 2:12-14

We need the grace of God that has appeared in Jesus, because here’s the deal…

  • The GIFT that is Jesus is not a gift you receive and put on your shelf.
  • The GIFT that is Jesus is not a gift you use when you simply feel stuck or on major holidays like Christmas.
  • The GIFT that is Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving all year, for all the years that have been and are to come.
  • The GIFT that is Jesus not only saves us but changes us and transforms us.

*We are a church located in Greenville, South Carolina. Our vision is to see God transform us into a community of grace passionately pursuing life and mission with Jesus.
