Sundays: 9 & 11am LATEST MESSAGE

Community Groups

As we go through the competencies of Jesus that we see in Scripture, our next one is HEART: A fully-equipped disciple knows how to communicate the difference between heart transformation (the goal of the Gospel) and behavior modification (the goal of religion). We all experience trials, pressures, and difficulties in our lives. Depending on the nature of our hearts, those things will produce either GOOD fruit or BAD fruit. Only a gospel transformed heart will bear the enduring fruit of change. We challenge you to think of a recent trial / pressure in your life. What fruit came from it (good or bad)? And what’s the condition of your heart that revealed? How might you apply the gospel to your own heart?

COMMUNITY GROUP RESOURCES

Books to read on "Heart":

  • Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands by Paul David Tripp - People in need of change helping people in need of change. God radically changes people, and he offers us the opportunity―and the ability, by his power―to be involved in that change.
  • How People Change by Paul David Tripp and Timothy Lane - This book addresses the question: "What does it take for lasting change to take root in your life?" It explains the biblical pattern for spiritual change in a clear, practical way.

"A Case Study of the Heart" Video by Paul David Tripp: A quick video to unpack the principles seen in the books above.

"Love Your God with All Your Heart" Video by the Bible Project: This video describes what it means to love your God with all your heart. A different approach to the idea of "Heart" and heart transformation than Paul David Tripp describes, but one that is very important, one that we see all over Scripture.
